In order to be an expert you need to be an amateur first. You will make alot of mistakes. Most people are too paralyzed by fear. Mistakes are the stepping stone to something great. Edison failed 1000 times before he invented light bulb. Abraham Lincoln was bankrupted THREE times before he became the president. You cannot reach sucess without making a series of failures.

Malcom Gladwell in his book “Outlier” also mentioned that it takes 10000 hours to become a master at something. What it implied is that in order to be great at something takes time. A long time. But every great journey start with a single step. That single step is similar to what Neil Armstrong once said, “it is a single step me, but a giant leap for mankind”

Unfortunately, most of people is reluctant to take the first step. They are doomed to stay in the rat race.

You will need to learn to accept mistakes at part of everyday life. it is a learn process and the path that leads to something extraordinary.

Last week a group of Harvard Business student ask Seth Godin on how to get a job. He replied,

“Go to a small company, work for the CEO, get a job where you actually get to make mistakes and do something”

This is the most brilliant advise I heard.

A large company does give you somewhat a false sense of security. However, you are narrowing confine to the task that you are doing. The chance of expanding your limitation is pretty small.

A smaller company gives you variety. Yes, you will make a lot of mistake and you need to be aggressive. But in the long run, you will build your foundation.

So if you are a new graduate, go work in a small company first. Several years later you will outgrown most of your competition that worked in a large company.

In this time of uncertainty, more and more people are looking for quick cash or home-based business. However, most poeple are so entrenched in their job that they are not aware of other way to earn income. You might be in similar situation and is looking to alternative options. Entrepreneurship might be somethng that interest you now.

Fortunately entrepreneurship can be learned. Unfortunelately, it takes time. To make money as an entrepreneur basically boils down to three things.

1. Have something to sell to somebody
2. Have the prospect comes to you when they are ready to buy
3. Buy from you.
